Great first day!

Okay, aside from the minor glitch of not having internet connection, I think we had a great first day of class.  Some of the items we reviewed were:

• The importance of understanding that the comments you leave, pictures you like, places you visit and things you post will follow you- THIS is your digital footprint
• What makes a website a reliable source?
• What is the difference between .com, .org, .gov and .edu?
• Cross check any information from the internet with at least two other sources

We also touched a bit on blogging etiquette:

• What makes a "good" comment?
• How do I disagree politely?
• What type of things can I post about?

Also, I highly recommend parents reading the book Born Digital.  This gives parents a great insight on raising digital natives.
